History begin

1989 – 1999: Construction company for tall columns 

On June 1, 1989, Information Equipment Electronics Corporation (SIGELCO) was established - the forerunner of Military Telecommunications Group (Viettel). During the first period of operation, SIGELCO had about 40 personnel, who were soldiers from units of the Army of Communications.

In the early years of establishment, SIGELCO focused on implementing high-column construction projects. In 1990, SIGELCO built Vietnam's first AWA digital microwave line. From 1990 to 1994, SIGELCO continued to complete many construction and installation projects such as: 14 microwave stations connecting Vinh - Da Nang and Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City; 7 microwave antenna towers Da Nang - Nha Trang and Nha Trang - Binh Dinh; Ba Vi - Vinh microwave route for the General Department of Post and Telecommunications; 140Mb/s broadband microwave route Hanoi - Da Nang; Vietnam's tallest antenna tower (85m) for Quang Ninh Post Office... Telecom MobiFone

On June 13, 1995, the Prime Minister issued Notice No. 3179/DM-DN (signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Duc Luong) approving the establishment of Military Electronics and Telecommunications Company. On July 14, 1995, the Minister of National Defense decided to change the name of the Electronic Information Equipment Company to the Military Electronics and Telecommunications Company under the Military Communications Service, the international transaction name is VIETEL.
